March 19, 2004 Dear Kathy, I am emailing from your web site. My daughters and I love your book, Mama Love. When I read it in the book store, tears came to my eyes, and I just had to buy it. My daughter wanted to send the following message: I am Laura Rose. I am 4, and I came to say thank you for the book. I like every page that you wrote. You're a great book person. March 3, 2004 Thought you might like to hear how Mama Love was received here at the Ferguson home. Well I showed it to the kids when they got home. There was jumping up and down and clapping of hands, and not just me. Sadie immediately said, "I want to read it to you later at bedtime!" Well, bedtime rolled around but Sadie, I guess, couldn't wait because she said she'd already read it, and so had her older brother, Lucas. But she wanted to read it to me. I heard my husband, Doug, call from the other room, "Wait for me. I want to hear it too!" So, the three of us, Luke was studying for a quiz, piled onto the bed to hear Sadie read. We poured over the illustrations. Sade liked the endpapers. Doug marveled over the foliage and the chimps. I sat there beaming. Sadie alerted us as she read, "See...the sky is getting darker...it's getting nighttime..." and "Look, in most of the pictures, the baby is looking right at me!" We ooohed and ahhhed and chuckled over the chimp's postures and expressions. Sadie told us all about what was happening in the illustrations. "See, the Mama's picking bugs out of his hair"..."See, the Mama's showing him how to stick a stick in the hole and get bugs to eat." Luke had pointed out earlier that, "Bruce McMillan took that photo!" He spotted the credit on the back flap author picture. Sadie noted in that photo that you, Kath, were standing 'in the woods.'
